Paris - Day 1 - Part 3 - Metro & Lunch

GPS suggested Alexander Nevsky Cathedrale which is around 800 metres from 'Marche Poncelet'.

Cathedrale Alexandre Nevsky view from Rue Des Renaudes

I have also noticed the parking in Paris is much tougher than in Penang.

Watch the 'mini' gap

Cathedrale Alexander Nevsky is consecrated on the 11 September 1861 as a dedication to Saint Alexander Nevsky, Prince of Novgorod, Russia's greatest hero. Designed by architects Kouzmine, Strohm and approved by Napoleon III. Information plundered from this blog.

Main facade of the cathedrale

Another view of the church, really looks like Russian Orthodox Church

The dome design of the church, the clock is not denoting Paris time

After walking through the market and walking to the church, it has started to drizzle, we decided to give the Parc Monceau a skip and head for lunch. After some contemplation, it is the Le Cafe du Commerce for lunch. Garmin suggested:

1. Walk to metro railway stop at Courcelles ( 300m )
2. Take metro railway M2 toward Porte Dauphine ( 4 mins )
    - Get off at Charles de Gaulle-Etoile stop
3. Transfer to metro railway M6 at Charles de Gaulle-Etoile and get off La Motte-Picquet-Grenelle stop.
4. Walk to Le Cafe du Commerce ( 350m)

Total time is 26 minutes.

Courcelles Metro Stop is one of the M2 Paris metro stop.

26 minutes later exiting the La Motte-Picquet-Grenelle stop.

After another 300 metres walk Rue du Commerce, we arrived at our lunch destination

The single menu restaurant started since 1921, capable of serving 250 to 400 people. During world war II, it is one of the most affordable restaurant, enough of history, let's check it out!

No idea what is the meaning of this.

Right at the entrance.

The main entrance

The waiting area

It's full for lunch, we have no reservation, we have to wait.

And we wait.

Reservation list.

Sample food, nice of them to put it out.

And finally we have a place to sit

What's on the menu ?

Hmm the set lunch menu is €15, you will get to choose a main course and a dessert with coffee or you can just go for the main course which is €12.50.

Or totally a la carte on the menu at the left.

We quickly ordered, typically Asian style, fast and furious. Some of our 'neighbours' pondered long for the selection, and so we waited ...

Looking around and mind you, pets are allowed, with leash of course.

Looking around, checking things out.

Three floors of tables, no wonder it can cater to 400 guests.

And the food came ...

The bread or baguette, quite hard.

Terrine de lapereau, pruneaux au cognac,  Rabbit terrine with prune in brandy ( €6.50)

The famous Cuisse de Canard a l'orange pommes Anna, such artistic name, what can I say ? (€15)

We ordered the set menu with the main as the duck leg with orange and apple juice reduction, served with finely layered potatoes slices oven baked with tomato. This is the famous menu.

With the sorbet fruit rouges, red fruit sorbet, it is actually raspberry sorbet, wonderful.

The duck is exceptional, the terrine is good especially with the prunes and the sorbet is marvelous. Very good and value for money. Highly recommended. We skipped the wine and opted for sky juice instead, and we were not charged to the water. Nice!

It's time to head back to hotel and check-in our luggage, take a short stop before the continuation.
